 Francois Joseph Talma  (1763 – 1826) – He was borne in Paris, as a son of  a Parisian dentist. attended dental school in London, and after graduation returned to Paris. After 1 1/2 year gave up practice and made his debut as actor. He became the greatest tragedian of France.

Jaquine A. Marcos  (1890 – 1942) – Graduated as dentist in 1911, continued the stud of medicine and graduated as  MD. He specialized in the research and treatment of tuberculosis. The Sanatorium in San Salvador was named in his honor the Dr. Marcos Sanatorium.

Dr. William P. Magee Jr., is a leading plastic and craniofacial surgeon who founded Operation Smile in 1982 with his wife, Kathleen S. Magee, and serves as the organization’s Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Magee received a D.D.S. from the University of Maryland, M.D. from George Washington University Medical School, served his general surgery residency at the University of Virginia Medical School. Operation Smile is a worldwide children’s medical charity whose network of global volunteers are dedicated to helping improve the health and lives of children and young adults. To date, Operation Smile has provided more than 3.5 million comprehensive healthcare evaluations and performed over 220,000 free surgeries for children and young adults born with cleft lips.

Robert H. Snyder  (1889 – 1956) – He study dentistry in Chicago, and graduated as a DDS in 1916. His house was the subject of a painting by L. L. Fitzgerald, who lived next door, “Doc Snyder’s House”.

  Dr. Aders Sandvig  (1861 – 1950) – Graduating from The dental School in Oslo, he opened a dental practice near Silehammer. Interested in rural cultural heritage he organized “The sandvig collection” a rural farm houses collection.

Norway 1987

Dr. Blaiberg Philip  ( 1909 – 1969 ) Born in Uniondale, South Africa, he graduated as Doctor in Dentistry from the Royal Dentistry Hospital School in 1933, and practiced in Johannesburg. On January 2, 1969 he became he second heard transplant patient of Dr. Barnard, surviving for nearly 20 months.

 Dr. Henry McKeeby  (1867 – 1950) studied dentistry at the University of Iowa graduating in 1894, and practice dentistry at Winthorp, IA. In 1930 the american painter Grant Wood, chose Dr. McKeeby and his sister Nan as subjects for his painting,” American Gothic”.

George Leslie Mackay or Má-kai (21 March 1844 – 2 June 1901, aged 57) was the first Presbyterian missionary to northern Taiwan (then Formosa). He served with the Canadian Presbyterian Mission. Mackay is among the best known Westerners to have lived in Taiwan. Starting with an itinerant dentistry practice among the lowland aborigines,  he later established churches, schools and a hospital practicing Western biomedicine.

Peter the Great=

Peter the Great was a keen amateur doctor and dentist. He once saw a tooth being pulled out of a person’s mouth and became obsessed with carrying out random dental checks on his subjects. His 250 courtiers were unwilling victims, having any suspect tooth whipped out at a moments notice. Sections of gum would often accompany the extracted chomper as the tsar did not know his own streinght or the minimum force required to undergo such a process. He carried a small bag of the pulled teeth around with him wherever he went as proof of his ‘ability’.

Peter the Great’s willingness to act as an untrained dentist was proved when a courtier came to him and asked him for his help The courtier said that his wife had a terrible ongoing toothache but that she was afraid of dentist. He asked the tsar to trick the woman into getting close enough to the wannable dentist so that she could have her tooth removed. Peter the Great complied, valiantly fighting against the screaming and panicked woman, eventually getting the offensive tooth
