Harry S. Truman (May 8, 1884 – December 26, 1972) was an American politician who served as the 33rd president of the United States from 1945 to 1953. In 1948 the president signed the bill that created the National Institute of Dental Research, which initiated federal funding for dental research (American Dental Association Dental History Timeline).
